Chair, Organising Committee, QUESTnet2009

Queensland Education, Science and Technology Network QUESTnet is the Queensland regional component of the Australian Academic and Research Network AARNet.

The QUESTnet conference is an annual event aimed at network technologists and those ICT professionals who work closely with network technology.

A key focus of the event is to provide an opportunity for delegates to develop their professional and technical knowledge and to gain an appreciation of the key strategic issues underpinning the development, deployment and maintenance of National and International telecommunications networks.

The QUESTnet 2009 conference will be held from Tuesday 7th to Friday 10th July 2009 and is hosted this year by The University of Southern Queensland.

This year's conference theme is Leveraging our Investment.

Sharing and repurposing network infrastructure to maximise its value to the sector requires a paradigm shift in our thinking. To enable this discussion QUESTNET 2009 will include a new K12 and Vocational Education and Training Stream to explore the opportunities for strategic collaboration and reuse of Higher Education network infrastructure.

QUESTnet 2009 will also feature an online virtual conference space to extend its reach Internationally and to enable those unable to physically attend the conference to actively engage in discourse with presenters and attendees across the respective streams. The virtual conference will commence in early June 2009 and culminate with key QUESTnet presentations and joint interactive sessions throughout the three days of the conference.

A Webinar is also being planned and one of the stream presentations will be streamed live to the web from the conference venue in an interactive session with a worldwide audience who will be able to interact with the speaker in real-time.

A call for papers will be advised in January 2009 and speakers are encouraged from University, Vocational Education and Training, K12 Education, Research, Health, Government, Defence and Industry sectors. Scholarships are available to first time speakers from within the Education sector.

As Chair of the Organising Committee I invite you to join us at the Crown Plaza Royal Pines Resort in July for QUESTnet2009, or if you are unable to join us in person for you to participate in the virtual conference and contribute to the success of the event
