Building a Standard Operating Environment on Linux

A series of presentations which:

  • introduce the concept of a Standard Operating Environment;
  • describe how to setup a Linux Repository Server;
  • walk through building a Kickstart build environment; and
  • introduce basic Puppet configuration;

The presentation is technical but should be suitable for beginners to intermediates in these technologies and acts as a starting point.

Christian Unger, The University of Queensland
Christian Unger joined the University of Queensland as a member of ITS's Unix Server Group, responsible for the management, operation and development of core Unix services. During this time he has been heavily involved in the migration of services from Solaris hosts to commodity based Red Hat Enterprise Linux systems. In this, his core focus has been on the automation of host deployment, and the standardisation of the server environment.
