Another year of major developments for AARNet, particularly with NBN becoming the ‘bull in the china shop’ in Australian political, Telco and network circles.AARNet is in the process of becoming an NBN Early Access Seeker to enable us to supply services in their First Release Sites. What does this mean for AARNet and the Australian R&E sector?

Other more ‘mundane’ topics covered in the presentation include our successful 40G trial on the AARNet optical network between Parkes, Sydney and Narrabri, completion of the 400km fibre construction for the ASKAP project in WA, National Research Network projects, Cisco TelePresence Exchange, Cloudstor large file transfer service, new additional 24x7 NOC services, eResearch developments and the announcement of an extension to our popular un-metered Off-Peak times!

Don Robertson's Biography
Don Robertson has been working with AARNet in this role since 2001. He is responsible for all operational aspects of AARNet including the national and international IP network, national optical network and infrastructure projects. Prior to working for AARNet Don spent eight years at CSIRO in a number of roles including managing their 60 PABX national voice network and finally as their national network manager. Don’s original background was in electronic engineering in Defence R&D and Health Biomedical areas.
