Staying Ahead of the Security Wave – Real World Network Security Implementation at Griffith University

Griffith University has been working to stay ahead of the wave on security for several years.  Their most security implementations have allowed them to address rapidly growing capacity requirements, dramatic rise in web traffic, evolving threats (inside and outside of the university), and also help them make use of Cloud Services.

This presentation will share key lessons learnt, approaches, and technology used to help Griffith University successful manage their network security.  Griffith will also share what additional features they are planning to deploy over the next few years.

Gary Galbraith's Biography
Gary Galbraith (Principal Network Engineer NCS, Griffith University) is currently responsible for improving and maintaining the integrity and stability of the network infrastructure.  Griffith University has approximately 40,000 students and 7,000 staff spread across five campus in south east Queensland with the two main campuses located at Nathan and the Gold Coast. Gary has over 17 years experience in the ICT Industry with the last 12 years in networking and has worked in private industry, currently with Griffith University.

Greg Schmidt's Biography
Greg Schmidt (Sales Manager, Fortinet) worked with Network Security for the last 15 years on four different continents.  His experience in Network Security includes Security Architecture, Design, Compliance, and Sales. His former employers include ANZ Bank, Microsoft, Nokia, AboveNet, and MCI.
