Enriching Your Curriculum Utilizing Content Providers and Special Events
Music, math, science, language, history; it doesn’t matter what our subject area, through video conferencing, we as educators, can greatly enrich our curriculum through connecting with content providers. In this session, we will explore programs available from content providers worldwide and interact with several of them for a deeper dive.
Audience: K-12 Education Practitioners, Teachers, Administrators, Support/Technical Staff, Curriculum Specialists
Summary: Given the right opportunities & right technologies, teachers can transform the learning environment, motivate students to learn, and ultimately, raise student achievement in a tight time frame. Bringing the world into our classroom has never been easier so many of us are already doing this. BUT...are we aware of all of the programs and resources available to make this easy and more powerful all at the same time?
We will look at how access to rich content, resources, and experts can increase depth and relevance of learning experiences, engage and motivate students, and ensure that there is greater understanding and knowledge of the world around them.
For the K-12 classroom, we will look at how programs align to curriculum standards so that these connections are not an extra-curricular add-ons but powerfully address objectives. For higher education, we will examine which content providers will work with faculty to customize programs specifically for their needs.
I will provide an overview of the world of content providers, then show some tools that enable educators to easily search and find relevant programs. During this time, I will pull attendees in by allowing them to lead the direction we go during our search. Next, I will have some content providers including Manhattan School of Music (on-site) and others who will be on-site or virtual to share about their programs. For this, I will need to be in a video conferencing enabled room. Finally, attendees will be able to ask questions or share about programs in which they have participated.
Outcomes: Attendees will:
- Understand the benefits of connecting with content experts
- Gain access to resources and tools
- Develop a beginning relationship with connect providers
- Know how to become content providers themselves
- Network with other educators in this community of practice
