Enhancing your Music Curriculum – Connect to LIVE Musicians Using High Fidelity Videoconference

ABSTRACT:
Music, music history, composition, master classes, outreach, performance coaching; it doesn’t matter what the purpose, through video conferencing and using true acoustic properties. As music educators, you can greatly enrich your music curriculum through connecting with content providers who specialize in music and allow you to hear music as it is meant to be heard - in true high fidelity.  In this presentation, University of Newcastle (and Polycom will demonstrate Polycom Live Music mode with a SD vs HD music lesson.  Nathan will talk about his work between University of Newcastle and Newcastle Conservatorium K-12 – a community program.

SUMMARY:
The University of Newcastle’s music studio and mobile units incorporate Polycom hardware and software specifically designed for the audio requirements of music transmission, featuring proprietary Live Music Mode echo cancellation developed in collaboration by Polycom engineers and the Manhattan School of Music.

In our session we will deliver two music lessons over videoconference; one in standard definition and only use standard audio settings and the second using high definition and Polycom’s Live Music Mode acoustic properties.

Nathan Scott's Biography
Nathan Scott is a lecturer in creative music production (technology) in the Faculty of Education and Arts at the University of Newcastle. He has degrees in music, audio engineering and teaching and has been involved in research into the use of technology in the music classroom. He introduced the music technology program and creative music production facility at Newcastle Conservatorium, developed Australia's only online Masters of Music Technology degree and is involved with music education using video conferencing technology.
