Keith Linforth

Network Transition – Cowboys Need Not Apply

Technical people and those with a risk management responsibility break into a cold sweat when the subject of undertaking a major network upgrade is couched with the possibility of changing from one network vendor to another. This presentation considers the implications of undertaking a journey like this and offers some pragmatic advice born out of experience to ensure that the end result delivers the outcomes required.

Keith Linforth's Biography
Keith Linforth has a nation and higher national diploma in Electrical Engineering and a Bachelor of Business Studies majoring in management from Massey University.  Keith has extensive experience in information technology and telecommunications from around the world.  This experience started in Siemens in Africa commissioning telecommunications networks, and then for Ungerman Bass in UK implementing networks for large financial, oil and pharmaceutical companies.  Keith migrated to New Zealand by securing a position with Telecom Central as a project manager to transfer the customer management and billing solution from project mode to business operations.  Keith joined Massey as a telecommunications manager and after 13 years left to take on a challenge as a general manager at Inspire Net Limited.  After 3 years at Inspire and successfully restructuring the company and making it profitable, Keith returned to Massey in 2009 as an associate director responsible for the network, telecommunications, computer security and disaster recovery portfolios.  Keith currently is the project executive for the disaster recovery project, the network upgrade project, unified communications project and security management framework program.  Keith is also involved as an advisor on the architecture working group for REANNZ and has recently worked with REANNZ to successfully upgrade the KAREN network and the introduction of a commodity internet service for KAREN members.
