Building on a fundamental understanding of network monitoring, we would like to demonstrate through a workshop format, Nagios monitoring - using a real server and some real switches and servers on site.
 
We will look at basics of nagios, setting it up for the first time.
 
Advanced topics:

  • time of day configuration, notifications, escalations and templating
  • Basics of SNMP will be covered
  • polling vs traps
  • passive result inputs
  • building your own nagios plugins
  • NRPE and remote probes will also be used/demonstrated

Knowledge of Unix, Perl, Network highly desirable.
