RDSI - Transforming Research Data Storage for Australia

The Research Data Storage Infrastructure (RDSI) project is a $50 million project, funded by the Australian Government's Department of Innovation, Industry, Science, Research and Tertiary Education (DIISRTE) and led by the University of Queensland (UQ). It aims to establish a small number of highly scalable data centres or "nodes" across Australia linked together with a very high speed network.
By 2014, this network of nodes is likely to have around 100 Petabytes (PB) of storage and to be holding a significant amount of Australia's research Data.
This presentation will provide an overview of the project and will specifically address the issues of scale confronting the project and the design of the network which aims to eventually link the nodes at speeds of up to 100Gbits/sec.
