Desktop as a service – student desktops from the cloud using Citrix
The panel will present on a Project to deliver a Student Desktop built on Citrix technologies and delivered from a Public cloud service in conjunction with a Cloud Consultancy firm.
Joshua Rubens will present on the solution architecture involved in deploying the desktop from a Cloud Provider to ACU campuses located across Canberra, NSW, Qld and Vic.
Brian Quirk will present on the coordination of the POC within ACU, based on repurposing a pilot group of standard Library Commons PC’s as Thin Clients to deliver the desktop environment. End user experience will be discussed as well as technical outcomes and recommendations.

| Brian Quirk and Joshua Rubens's Biographies Brian Quirk Brian Quirk is National Systems Coordinator at Australian Catholic University responsible for maintaining client desktop SOE through centralised systems management tools. Brian has an interest in exploring technologies based on virtualisation that will enhance the delivery of desktops in a cost effective manner while maintaining good end user experience. With 20 years' experience in Higher Education he is particularly interested in the place of these technologies including desktop as a service , BYOD and their impacts in the areas of services of the Libraries, Information Technology Services, eLearning Environments and Teaching Spaces. Joshua Rubens Josh Rubens founded Cloud Solutions Group in 2010 to help Australian businesses with their journey to the cloud.
