The research database as a service – Latrobe University

The recent endorsement of the Wellcome Data Sharing and Management Policy by the NHMRC and the suggestion that the ARC will soon follow suit have raised the awareness of data management and preservation to researchers, but many researchers still see data management as an administrative chore peripheral to their research and in many cases don't see any immediate benefit from establishing a data management plan.

At the La Trobe eResearch office, we have decided to focus on minimising the effort required to deploy services for data management by working them into the existing project planning workflow. We are currently integrating results from this into our new Research Database as a Service system, allowing for data entry, storage, preservation and various forms of distribution and publication from a single standardised platform.

This talk will deal with enhancing the traditional database backend with user oriented interfaces also detail some issues requiring consideration when dealing with data management in cloud style environments.
