Cloud – our first steps
In Q4, 2012 The University of Queensland kicked off an internal project to evaluate “Cloud Services” that are being offered by a number of providers in the market place and how these could be utilised by the University. This presentation will walk those who attend through the processes UQ used for evaluation from both the technical and business prospective, outlining our technical findings, agreement, draft cloud policy, and the end result “Where are we today”.

| Simon Rose and Darren Ehrlich's Biographies Simon Rose Simon Rose is the General Manager of Internet Services at the University of Queensland where he is responsible for the delivery of all Internet provisions to the university and the UQSchoolsNet initiative. In this role Simon is also the Cloud Services owner at the University of Queensland where he recently negotiated the universities enterprise agreements with both Amazon and Microsoft and manages the Amazon Web Services and Microsoft Azure cloud services platform. He has over 14 years experience in the Telecommunications and Software/Infrastructure as a service sector, before joining the University of Queensland he has worked for the Telecom New Zealand group as a Senior Communications Consultant and prior to that worked for Realestate.com.au as a System Development consultant. Darren Ehrlich Darren Ehrlich is a Senior IT Officer with the University of Queensland's Information Technology Services division. Since completing his Bachelor of Information Technology at the University of Queensland in 2007, he has served as technical lead across a wide range of infrastructure projects for the University, including the architecture and implementation of AWS and Windows Azure cloud environments. |
