Getting out of hospital - Health Research Access Project
Andrew Fiedler
QRNO Project Manager
The QRNO Health Research Access Project commenced in 2007 recognising the need to provide reliable high speed networking access for university researchers, staff and students based at health precincts. Stage 1 investigations found approximately 11 600 university staff and students were placed within health precincts over the period 2007/8 and gained stakeholder support to share LAN and WAN infrastructure and establish a wireless solution.
Stage 2 has worked to capitalise on this in-principle support and celebrated a major milestone with the deployment of eduroam at the Mater Hospital, South Brisbane, using the Mater’s wireless infrastructure.
The project has received significant support from Queensland Health with the initiation of the University Access Services Project. This project was created to provide resources within Queensland Health to support the objectives of the Health Research Access Project. Both projects are working to deploy a proof of concept for eduroam at a Queensland Health site with the view for wider deployment across their new centralised wireless architecture. Other activities include detailed business requirements gathering and analysis to inform current and future activities, including wired solutions to remove the ‘2 desktop issue’ and application presentation.
This presentation will provide an update of activities undertaken in the last 12 months and a forward look to future work.
