Desktop 2010 - What, Why, How
Curtin University has commenced a program of works to migrate from a diverse Faculty managed Windows XP operating environment to a single University wide managed operating environment (MOE) based on Windows 7 and Active Directory with SCCM. The strategy is to develop a dynamic user workspace that will facilitate the overall goal of an Anytime, Anywhere and Any Device environment. There were critical design decisions that needed to be factored, such as network configuration to support remote deployment and management, automated power configurations to reduce consumption and management of applications including virtualisation and streaming. The design also takes into account forays into Virtual Desktop Infrastructure and BYO Hardware as part of the strategy of “Anywhere, Any Device”. This presentation will overview these issues, the choices we made, and how we combined expertise from within and outside Curtin to develop and deploy a robust solution.
