Microsoft Cloud Platforms - Unleashing services, unleashing users

Heath Wilkinson

As part of a broad engagement strategy with Microsoft, Curtin University has made a significant move into cloud services by adopting the Microsoft Live@edu platform for student email. Not only has this provided a much improved email experience for Curtin Students it has added new features and services such as calendaring and exponential increases in mailbox and file storage.
The Live@Edu platform provides a building block for Curtin to enhance the delivery of education services for students. It provides a base for adopting desktop communication and collaboration products such as Office Communications Server (OCS) and Business Productivity Online Suite (BPOS).
Live@Edu forms part of an exciting roadmap for Curtin University including features such as Federated identity management (IDM)and integration with Sharepoint. The future use of .Net technologies with the flexibility of cloud development platforms such as Azure will allow Curtin to develop customised educational tools to complement the Live@Edu services.
