AARNet's video conferencing journey - the National Video Conferencing Service (NVCS) in 2010

Jason Bordujenko

The AARNet National Video Conferencing Team will present an update on the next generation of video enabled services to the research and education community. Previous presentations have revolved around the use of a centralised booking system co-ordinating resources across video MCUs (multipoint control units). This work in the scope of a very dynamic and unpredictable marketplace has led to significant investments across the sector which sees new technologies and developments being introduced at a record pace.

This presentation will focus on where video services may progress beyond the current silos of these MCU based offerings. Topics to be covered will be Telepresence and ad-hoc video conferencing as well as the management and monitoring of video endpoints and network security through the use of session border controllers and associated devices.

Also being presented is a state of the NVCS core video service offerings and bringing both supported and unsupported services together to allow maximum flexibility to the organisation whilst not affecting ease of use.
