Curtin’s Cloud Infrastructure Strategy

Curtin have beaten the backup blues with their successful EMC Avamar backup solution, which is de-duplicating data at the source, at the sub-block level, before any data is sent over the network. This has enabled Curtin to meet backup windows and improve their backup and DR capabilities dramatically, and has also enabled a much tighter integration with one of Australia’s largest VMware Virtual Infrastructures. But, what next? The needs of the University are growing and changing. This presentation will show how the Avamar solution was a fundamental step on Curtin’s journey to a cloud computing based infrastructure, and will examine their strategy for achieving efficient, scalable and agile services into 2011.
 | Steven Lim's Biography Steven is the Senior Systems Engineer in Curtin IT Services Infrastructure Team, he is a member of the CITS Technical Architecture Advisory Group and lead Architect for Backups and Storage. Heath is involved in numerous initiatives at Curtin including Cloud based computing and he is currently project managing the migration from Novell to Microsoft. |
