Online Laboratories: We Bring the Lab to You
Mark Schulz
The presentation gives an overview of online laboratories (sometimes referred to as remote laboratories). These laboratories provide online access to experiments on a 24.7 basis for students all over the world. The iLab architecture developed at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in the 1990s is still the major software architecture in the area. Further developments continue to evolve, now with contributors from teams of developers in universities around the world. A sample of existing iLab experiments are presented in the talk to illustrate the diverse domains being addressed. The talk closes with a hint of some of the future enhancements to iLab that are being researched.
