Designing real-time Unified Communications Applications in a Virtualised Environment
Conventional wisdom has assumed that running real-time application on a virtualisation platform is not a great idea. However, it's time to reexamine that assumption. Trends in both hardware and virtualisation software are enabling the hosting of applications that are much more demanding and resource-intensive. This session will look at the challenges created when hosting real-time applications on a virtualised platform, using Cisco Unified Communications applications as a case study. We will discuss the architectural benefits of such a solution and present strategies for overcoming concerns about resource allocation, highlighting specific VMware ESX features and an architecture that enables real-time applications to run in a virtualised environment.
