Ping: music education for the 21st century

Ajax MacKerral

Ping is music education for the 21st century. The project combines social media, blogging and creative musical activities to engage middle years students in Victorian rural schools. The project includes online resources, digital learning, in-school workshops, online master classes and live concert streaming where a range of musical styles will be explored. The project is a collaboration between The Song Room, Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, Orchestra Victoria, Victorian Opera, Country Education Project Inc, 3MBS FM and is funded by the Victorian Government.

Ajax McKerral, The project manager will present the strategies and technologies used to deliver this innovate project.

Ajax McKerral's Biography

Ajax McKerral set up the London Symphony Orchestra's digital education program between 2004-2007. Since returning to Australia Ajax has worked on technology projects for the Sydney Symphony, The Melbourne Recital Centre, Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, and currently is the project manage for the Ping online music education project.

Ajax turned down a scholarship in IT from UTS to study Jazz at the Canberra School of Music before going on to La Trobe University to complete a Graduate Diploma in Music Technology. Ironically he now spends most of his time managing IT projects for music, arts and education organisations."
