Call for Papers
Call for Papers is now closed
QUESTNET 2001,
the National Conference for networking professionals, will
take place on the Gold Coast, Queensland from the evening
of Monday 2 July until Friday 6 July. Additional details are
available here.
eXtreme Networking, Media Networking, Order from chaos and
Network Security are the themes for this year's conference.
Other papers relevant to networking professionals will also
be considered.
The conference is hosted by The
University of Queensland, supported by AARNet
and CAUDIT, and is an initiative of QUESTnet (Queensland Educational,
Science and Technology Network). It is an opportunity for
delegates to develop their personal knowledge, to exchange
observations and experiences, and to gain an understanding
of future network directions and developments.
This is the first call for papers. Speakers are encouraged
from University, Research, Defence and Industry sectors. As
in past years, several of world class speakers will be participating
in the conference.
The theme for this year will embrace: eXtreme Networking,
Media Networking, Order from Chaos and Network Security. More
details are given below. Any other paper relevant to the networking
professionals will also be considered.
As an incentive to new presenters, the Organisation Committee
is looking to sponsor up to one paper from each QUESTnet member
organisation. To qualify for sponsorship, the presenter will
not have delivered a paper at any previous QUESTnet conference.
Sponsorship will include travel and registration. Papers which
are candidates for sponsorship will be reviewed along side
all other papers for suitability. Authors of papers who wish
to apply for sponsorship should clearly state this, along
with a statement of their eligibility, in a covering note.
Format
For Submission:
Authors wishing to submit a paper must provide the following:
- Name and Affiliation.
- Contact Email Address.
- A short Biography of Qualifications and/or Experience
(100 Words) .
- Key terms or topic (taken from the list below).
- Text Description of presentation (between 500 and 2000
words) .
- Authors should aim for presentations of 30 minutes duration,
including any question time.

Papers will be judged by the Program Subcommittee for quality
and relevance. The conference themes and topics are given

Extreme Networking:
Data networking under extreme conditions - field research,
military, police, crisis management, East Timor, battlefield
information and control systems, emergency rescue networking,
advanced tele-medicine, any demanding and intresting Network
Applications could also fit here.
(B)
Media Networking:
Digital TV, data-casting, remote access, Austar (tm), networked
multimedia and animation, video streaming, or any other intresting
data networked in the media sector. Good and bad experiences
from Converged Voice/Data/Video. We are seeking papers on
Voice over IP Telephony (VoIP) and Video over IP, particularly
involving AARNet.

Order from Chaos:
Bringing the networks under control. New ideas, projects,
technologies and solutions for management, planning and policy
- directory services, cross platform single sign-on, accounting
and billing, intelligent network management, implementing
SLA's, dynamic DNS, IPv6 progress, bandwidth growth management,
ADSL, broadband developments, Internet2, advanced optical
networking, last mile technology, wireless LAN and roaming
access, AARNet planning, carrier information,
legislation.

Network Security:
The latest on network security - wireless network access
control, auditing, anti-virus and anti-worm measures, crypto,
DOS, and DDOS attacks, log file data mining and monitoring.
